Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about pic.ie answered

Q
Is it really free?

For now, yes!! We are just starting up so best to get in early. There are too many subscription services in the world and since we don't store your photos — we just refer your device to your cloud service — we have fewer costs. We hope to keep it that way.

Q
What is a suitable digital picture frame to use?

Any old tablet but we LOVE the Facebook Portal for 3 reasons - this is what it was designed for, they come in many shapes and sizes and great condition second hand Facebook Portals are REALLY cheap.

But we're testing on many different old devices to make it as compatible as possible.

Q
My iCloud or Google Photos album isn't showing any photos

Both services require the album to be publicly shared via a link before pic.ie can access it. The most common reasons photos don't appear are:

  • The album is not shared. In iCloud Photos, open the album, tap the share icon and choose Share Album → enable Public Website. In Google Photos, open the album and tap ShareCreate link. Copy that link and paste it into pic.ie.
  • The share link was turned off after setup. If you disable sharing on the album, pic.ie can no longer reach it. Re-enable sharing and the frame will pick up photos on its next refresh.
  • The album is empty. Make sure the album actually contains photos — sharing an empty album will show no images.
  • The link was pasted incorrectly. Remove the source from your dashboard and add it again, pasting the full share link exactly as copied from iCloud or Google Photos.
  • iCloud only — wrong link format. Use the icloud.com/sharedalbum/ link, not a Photos app deep-link. The correct URL starts with https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B0…

If photos were showing before but have stopped, the most likely cause is that sharing was accidentally turned off or the album was deleted. Re-share the album (or create a new one) and update the link in your pic.ie dashboard.
